Who has not been affected, either directly or through a loved-one, by the scourge that is cancer? Cancer strikes like lightning, without warning, devastating the life of the one it targets, and those of his or her relatives.
… One man out of two, one woman out of three will be stricken in their lifetime by some cancer
Each year, the burden of cancer throughout the world has risen to:
- 14.1 million new cases, with the number rising every year,
- 2.6 million of which are in Europe, and 370,000 in France
- 8.2 million die from cancer
- 1.3 million of which are in Europe, 155,000 in France
Today we are able to cure close to 55% of cancers in adults and 80% of cancers in children. This of course represents a lot of progress compared to the recent past, but it is still not enough.
